LIVING IN HOLLYWOOD

Hollywood the neighborhood is very different from Hollywood the idea. Yes, the Walk of Fame and the tourist traps exist, but move a few blocks off Hollywood Blvd and you'll find genuine neighborhood pockets — Thai Town with some of the best Thai food outside Bangkok, the residential streets south of Franklin, and the canyon neighborhoods that feel miles from the city. Rent is surprisingly reasonable for how central it is, and the Metro Red Line means you can actually live without a car here.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the average rent in Hollywood?
Average rent ranges from $1,800 for a studio to $3,200 for a 2-bedroom. Great value for a central, transit-connected location.
Is Hollywood safe to live in?
It depends on the specific area. Residential streets are generally safe. Tourist-heavy areas like Hollywood Blvd can be hectic. Many residents love the location and learn which blocks suit them.
Is Hollywood walkable?
Very walkable, especially around the commercial corridors. The Metro Red Line station makes it one of the most transit-friendly neighborhoods in LA.
What is Thai Town?
Thai Town is a section of East Hollywood centered on Hollywood Blvd between Western and Normandie. It has the highest concentration of Thai restaurants in the US.
How is Hollywood different from West Hollywood?
Hollywood is part of the City of LA (more urban, grittier, cheaper). West Hollywood is its own city (more polished, walkable, LGBTQ+-friendly, pricier).
